Koro or Incense Burner in the Shape of an Akoda. Japanese, Late Edo Period.
Regular price $750
The body of the koro is of a solid gilding, while the base displays an attractively simple makie pattern (created by sprinkling gold upon the still wet black lacquer ground).
A relic of the waning years of the Tokugawa shogunate, just prior to the tragic demise of the samurai order.
